| I describe myself as cursed
with being a "multi-talent".
I have a multitude of talents and constantly move back and forth between them. I used to think that I was a genius because of my absent-mindedness ("most geniuses are absent-minded, therefore..."). I now maintain the theory that it's just God's way of making me capable of handling so many thoughts in my head at any given moment. If, for some reason after reading all this you still want
to
, I'll respond to reasonable e-mails in a reasonable tone.

Cartooning
| I draw cartoons in a simple,
"line-drawing" style like you see in the daily newspaper comic
strips. I've never been published professionally, but I've appeared
in a few APAZines. An APA (Amateur Publishing Association) is a
magazine published by a group of people mainly for the other members'
entertainment.
The APA's I've appeared in are:
I have also had several appearances in the newsletter where I work. A sampling of those drawings can be found on the Drawings Page. |

Videography
| Mostly, it's just been vacation videos,
but I can be talked into helping my friends with projects like video
letters, live performance recordings, and the like. I currently use a
high-resolution 8 millimeter camcorder mounted on a SteadyCam
JR (handheld model) to gather the original
footage.
As soon as I manage to afford a good mixer (or at least easy-to-use -and cheap- computer editing software), I may break into the short film arena. If you're not in my close circle of friends, my services can be obtained for Michigan events for a $50 deposit and $100 fee per camera in attendance. I call this arrangement "WMAC-TV", but it's really only a means to generate the occasional bit of pocket money. |

Science Fiction
| I'm best known as "the guy in
OPS" at the now-defunct ConTraption, but I
make appearances at some of the other Michigan conventions; ConFusion,
PenguiCon, and ConClave in particular.
My connection with Science Fiction is primarily through the movies and television shows. I do not like the suspense and/or horror genre crossover films as a rule. My favorite film is the one that got me into S-F to begin with: 2001:A Space Odyssey. My favorite TV show is Farscape (cancelled from the SciFi channel and later brought back as a miniseries), but to limit myself to something that's showing now, I think I have to choose Monk. I also read books, recently selecting Terry Pratchett and his DiscWorld series as my current favorite. In all cases (movies, TV, and books), I decide what I like by the content more so than the theme or creator. Radio is now making inroads into this genre through my involvement in Radio Free Fandom - a small group dedicated to the "resurrection" of radio theater. The broadcasts are only meant to reach the convention's hotel and only during the convention weekend, but if you live nearby, you just might pick up our meager signal.. |

Music
| Yes, I took piano lessons when I was
little. And while I haven't tried in many years, I still can manage to
play. I'm told I can play pretty well, but I do not compose songs.
I have a slight interest in MIDI, but mostly because I think of it as a means to electronically play a keyboard. My taste in pre-recorded music is highly eclectic. I think I own at least two recordings from every major music genre except Rap, Acid/Punk Rock, and Country. My favorite genre is "Oldies". My favorite song is "Wipeout" by the Sufaris. The favorite group nod goes to the Alan Parsons Band. |

Pre-Recorded Home Video (Beta, Laser, DVD)
| I openly admit to being a Betaphile and
most of my personal recordings are in that format. Comparing equivalent
levels between VHS and Beta, Beta still gives a better picture quality and sharper
duplications.
I'm pretty good at detecting a movie I will like in the theater. I try hard to see a good film while they are in the theaters, so I don't need to rent. When I purchase a film, I typically do so on Laserdisc/DVD. I have yet to see a VHS machine without quirks, bad design, or both, so I try my best to own no pre-recorded VHS tapes. Favorite stuff to buy? I guess my collection proves I'm a Disney maniac in addition to being heavily into SciFi, but I have started collecting IMAX translations... even if it isn't the same as being in those special theaters. |

Computers (Old and new)
| What I know about computers tends to
apply to ALL computers. This is because of the large number of computers I
have dealt with.
My first computer is my Tandy Color Computer (CoCo). In addition to it's original operating system, it also ran Microware's OS-9. Since OS-9 performed multi-tasking, I was never impressed by Microsoft Windows' claims and hardware requirements. The local club has disbanded, but a larger club near Chicago still keeps the torch (and the annual convention) going. Next came the Atari 800 and then the 1040ST. The local club has disbanded, but I still have a few friends with operational machines. More than anything else, I miss the games "Midi Maze" and "Mule". Then I managed to obtain a Burroughs (pre-Unisys) B25. I learned how to use them at work and use it mainly for database purposes and making return address labels. I really ought to get that XE520 server running one of these days... Later, the MM/1 running OS-9 for 68000 arrived. Faster multi-tasking than the CoCo, but the lack of a graphical interface kept me from using it as much as I could have. OS-9 is a Unix derivative not to be confused with Mac OS9. *Sigh* If only I could afford an i-Mac... My "home-built" PC/compatible is how I currently communicate with the internet. Each of these computers is still functional and sit in their own cubicle in my basement. The network is under "functional" construction (in use while adding new parts). |
